BELLS: “King of the North” is a variety of blocky bell pepper uniquely suited to northern climates with short growing seasons. They turn from green to red by August and September when transplanted in early June.
“Mountaineer” is a longer shaped “bell” pepper with thick walls and phenomenal flavor. It’s been bred for us short-season people and ripens in August and September. 2021 was our first year growing this variety and we were very impressed!
MINI: “Lipstick” was new for us in 2021 and we were thrilled with their flavor and productivity. It is a pimiento variety with thick walls and extra sweet flavor. Great for roasting or snacking! Ripens in 70 days; 14-18″ plant spacing.
FRY / GRILL: “Jimmy Nardello” is a locally bred pepper (Naugatuck, CT) that has captured our hearts for years. It is long and slender with thin walls. It turns a marvelous green to yellow / orange to red and makes for a great frying or grilling pepper. Very sweet.
Hots
SHISHITO: Mostly mild–about 1 in 10 is hot, making it a fun game at a BBQ to see who gets the hot one! Small plants produce lots of 3″ peppers. Shishito are traditionally cooked and eaten when they are green (before they ripen to red).
ANAHEIM: Not terribly hot; these are peppers traditionally used for chiles rellenos and salsas; large 30″ plant
POBLANO: Same as above, these are used for chiles rellenos and salsas; large 30″ plant; peppers are darker and fatter than Anaheim
BANANA PEPPER: Mildly spicy; these peppers are generally pickled for use on sandwiches (or in my house, everything).
JALAPEÑO: Medium-Hot Spicy, depending on ripeness (red=hotter) and growing conditions; med-small plants; great in salsa or any dish really, roasted for chipotle, or pickled.
THAI CHILI: Very hot; bushy, feathery plant looks like a mini tree; plant this in a 5 gallon pot for a gorgeous plant you can bring indoors for the winter; peppers are little and pack a punch.
SCOTCH BONNET / HABANERO: Fruity and super hot; traditionally used in Caribbean dishes and in hot sauce; tall, branching plants; great in a 5 gallon container.
